My Blog is Sweet!

Yesterday I was awarded the Irresistibly Sweet Blog award by Piper of Chic & Cheap in Chicago.  The rules state to post seven random facts about yourself and then pass the award on to 15 other bloggers.  You guys have seen me rebel against the Blog Award Rulebook in the past, but I’ll do my best…  😉

Trying to think of seven new interesting things…

  1. I got picked on big-time in junior high school and the first two years of high school.  It wasn’t until I went Goth that other kids finally left me alone.  I guess they knew I didn’t fit in with the “normal” kids, and resented me for trying!
  2. I gave up TV almost 10 years ago, although sometimes I fall victim to a Netflix addiction.
  3. Cute illustrations of penguins never fail to make me squee.  I don’t know why; I’m not really a fan of penguins in particular…  I wasn’t even in to Happy Feet.
  4. I love genmaicha lattes.
  5. I hate the phone.  Text me, e-mail me, hit me up on Facebook, or come and talk to me face-to-face, but don’t call me.  Time-sensitive communications are a different story, of course.  And family gets a break, but co-workers get chastised severely.  😉
  6. I usually throw instructions away, or only refer to them after the fact.  It’s more fun, and better exercise for your problem-solving skills, without them.  😀
  7. I have trouble thinking of interesting facts about myself.

And I pass the award on to…

  1.  Okay, I hate this part because I can’t ever pick, and to list them all would take me all day!!  🙂  So I award this to all of my fellow bloggers.  If you are reading this, you’re a Sweet Blogger in my book, so consider yourself awarded!  Did that just sound like an Academy Award acceptance speech?

Guest Post – Amy of Ultimate Goth Guide

Sophistique Noir is proud to present a guest outfit post! Today’s Work Outfit is brought to you by Amy of The Ultimate Goth Guide. Enjoy!

Goths at both ends of the age spectrum – corporate Goths in a business environment, and baby bats negotiating their way through school – often have to make compromises in order to keep their sense of identity (and spooky fashion cred) and stay on the right side of the dress code.

In fact, most of the questions I am asked on my blog pertain to how we alternative types can fit in with a uniform or dress code whilst still retaining a suitably Gothy look. One of the tips I frequently divulge (when I don’t simply point the questioner straight to Sophistique Noir) is, “It doesn’t have to be black.” No, stop looking at me like that, I am quite serious.

And never let it be said that I don’t practise what I preach.

All right, so my outfit here is perhaps a bit too… frilly… for the office, but my point remains. Smart, elegant clothes, a nice pair of boots, and some interesting jewellery will get you far in life – I try to collect pieces that can be dressed up for the weekend, dressed up even more for festivals and clubbing, or toned down for a slightly staid work environment. This blouse in particular fits the bill nicely, I think.

Of course, my favourite thing about this outfit is the price. Everything I’m wearing, with the exception of the headband, came from charity shops, so altogether this ensemble cost £15. Go, budgetgoth extraordinaire. 😉

I’m a Versatile Blogger!

I’ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award by Amy of The Ultimate Goth Guide. I think this is a nice way for bloggers to show their peers that they are appreciated. Thank you for thinking of me for this award, Amy!

UPDATE:  I also was honored with this award by Amunicia of All Black Everything.  Wow, it’s a good day for me!  Thanks, Amunicia!!

UPDATE #2:  Ms Lou of The Neo-Victorian Parlour also chose me for the award.  Thank you, Ms. Lou!  Amy really got this ball rolling in the Goth blogging scene.  🙂

With such an honor comes great responsibility, so here are the rules for recipients of this award:

  • Thank and link the person who nominated you.
  • Share seven random facts about yourself.
  • Pass the award onto fifteen of your favorite bloggers.
  • Contact your nominees to let them know about the award.

So, on to the fascinating facts about me…

  1. My husband is my best friend.
  2. I get really moody if I don’t go out dancing often enough. One good night on the dance floor with my own kind adjusts my attitude wonderfully. An off night at a club just makes me moodier.
  3. I love meat. I’m an extremely healthy eater, and I consume my five+ servings of fruits and vegetables each day because it’s the right thing to do, but I hate every moment of it. If nutrition wasn’t a factor, I’d eat nothing but meat, bread and pie.
  4. I can’t stand the smell of perfume.
  5. My house isn’t decorated “Goth.” It’s more what I would describe as dark pseudo-modern Victorian. We don’t have black furniture, curtains, rugs or anything. Just the clothes are black. We do have a few gargoyles watching over us.
  6. My dad and I went to Ireland for his 50th birthday. It was just the two of us, and we spent nearly three weeks there. It was one of the best times of my life. I’m hoping we’ll go again for my 50th birthday… If he’s still mobile then. 😉
  7. It’s really all about the kittens.

And now I’m going to break the rules.  Instead of calling it an award and asking for a return mention of thanks and the whole “pay it forward” thing, I’m just going to take a moment to mention a few non-fashion bloggers who are special to me. I can’t see these bloggers following any of the rules above (they are all rebels), but they deserve some recognition because their blogs are awesome!  I truly look forward to reading each and every post by these talented people, and I hope you will too.
