Reminder: October 1 Theme Starts Tomorrow

Just a reminder that the October 1 โ€œBlack & Whiteโ€ theme begins TOMORROW, October 1, starting at midnight Pacific Time.

Since last month’s theme (Makeup) was very specific, I wanted to do something for October that is more open to interpretation. Something that could be as simple or as elaborate as you desire, and something that could cover just about any topic out there, not just fashion. What is more perfect than Black and White? We could celebrate photography, movies, art, music… So many possibilities!

Non-bloggers are welcomed and encouraged to participate! You can post your entries on my Facebook page and I’ll add them to the Linky.

Mr. Linky will close at 11:59 PM PST on October 3. However, remember that the earlier you link up, the more people will see your post! Also the Linky box at the bottom of my post will tell you how many hours you have left until it closes.

Reminder: September 1 Theme is Makeup!

Just a reminder that the September 1 โ€œMakeupโ€ theme begins Monday, September 1, starting at midnight Pacific Time.

I’m going to be featuring a much-requested tutorial on part of my signature look! ๐Ÿ™‚

I hope all of my readers will join in and share daily makeup looks, special event makeup, drag queen styles, Halloween effects, reviews, tutorials, favorite products, inspiration from around the Web (just be sure to credit your sources!!!) or whatever you can think of. Share whatever you love most about makeup!

Non-bloggers are welcomed and encouraged to participate! You can post your makeup looks on my Facebook page and I’ll add them to the Linky.

Mr. Linky will close at 11:59 PM PST on September 3. However, remember that the earlier you link up, the more people will see your post! Also the Linky box at the bottom of my post will tell you how many hours you have left until it closes.

A Quick Hello, and a Reminder!

Hello, dear friends! Yes, I’m still out here in Blogland. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ve just been taking a little break from pretty much all non-essential Internet use for personal reasons, but I’ll be back soon with some new outfit posts! To those who entered the April Theme of Vintage, I have read (and enjoyed) all of your posts and will be stopping back by to comment this week. I wanted to save my comments for when I could give your posts my full attention, as they deserve!

Red & Black Week Coming June 2-8, 2013!

I wanted to throw out a quick reminder because I realized today that we are only a month and a half away from Sophistique Noir’s THIRD Annual Red & Black Week. I’m SO excited to share a few new things and enjoy all of the participants for year three of this fun event. For those who weren’t reading my blog back in June 2012 (what took you so long? *wink*), Red & Black Week is pretty much like my Monthly Themes but instead of lasting just one day, it runs for a full week starting the first Sunday in June, with a new Linky each day.

Check out last year’s Red & Black Week!

This year, I want to make it a little bit different by having a couple of sub-themes during the week, which I will be sure to announce well in advance so everyone can plan for it. We might even put it up for a vote, because you guys are the ones who make this event memorable, so you should get some input!

Now, go scour your closet for bits of RED to go with all of your black, or get out there and do some shopping. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Plenty of time to prepare!! Don’t want to blog about outfits? No problem – ANY topic that relates to Red & Black is very welcome. Want more details on how this event works? Check out last year’s FAQs.

Roll call – who’s planning to participate this year?

Blogger Appreciation Day!

I wasn’t able to put together a Monthly Theme for February because I am working hard on a blog redesign and a contest (stay tuned!). However, I realized that I’m long overdue for a post expressing appreciation for my fellow Gothy bloggers, which I used to do every month. So here are my personal favorite posts from January!

  • Siouxsie Law never ceases to amaze me with the variety of macbre lawsuits she finds out there, such as the one involving a funeral home employee who mixed and matched body parts!
  • The amazing makeup artist Madam Noire totally wowed me with her Pastel Goth makeup look.
  • Ms. Lou of The Neo-Victorian Parlour is starting the year off right by accentuating the positive in her Goth-tastic 2013 campaign. I love bloggers who focus on the bright side of life!
  • Violette of Castitatis Lillium reminds us that a simple skin care routine is usually the best, and reminds us of some of the basics that we so often neglect.
  • Linnea Maria inspired me with her homemade nail polish ideas. So simple, and so many possibilities!
  • The Insomniac breathed new life into her fabulous kitchen suite by painting it black while leaving just enough beautiful wooden detail.

As a fashion blogger, of course I also like to give a shout-out to other great fashion posts out there. So, my favorite outfit post for January was…

  • Blood Red and Snow White by Lenore of Milking the Rolling Cow. Okay, not much outfit is actually shown there, but the whole effect is breathtaking!

Don’t Forget: December One-Day Theme Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that the December1 “Maxi Skirts” theme day is tomorrow, December 1, beginning at midnight Pacific Time.

Mr. Linky will close at 11:59 PM PST on December 3. However, remember that the earlier you link up, the more people will see your post! ๐Ÿ™‚ Also the Linky box at the bottom of my post will tell you how many hours you have left until it closes.

New Code for Monthly Theme Icon

I’m so sorry for the hassle, but please note that there is new code for the Monthly Theme Icon (again). After months of server issues since I moved my blog to WordPress, I decided to move it to a different server (still in WordPress, but a more reliable location). In doing so, there was a photo catastrophe. I still don’t know exactly what happened – I can see all of my photos on the server but my blog refused to recognize them. I nearly just trashed the whole blog, I was so upset and frustrated! But after giving it 24 hours of thought, I came up with a solution. I’ve moved all of my old photos to a separate location entirely. Therefore, the theme icon is now in a different location.

Please be sure to use the new code below from now on:

<a href="http://www.sophistiquenoir.com/category/monthly-themes"><img src="http://www.victoriankitty.com/blogPhotos/monthly-theme-icon.jpg" border="0"></a>

I will do everything in my power not to have to change the code again. Now that it is under a separate domain name and not dependent on the WordPress system, I should always have control over it and be able to keep it where it is now. I HOPE.

Can’t wait to see everyone’s Hosiery posts on Nov. 1!!

A Very Special Shrug

Click photos for larger view.

Today I am so excited to debut a very special custom-made shrug. This creation was made by Pixel Pixie, the incredibly talented seamstress behind the blog Cuz I Said Sew. I’ve been looking forward to building a dreamy outfit around this shrug since I received it nearly two months ago… Life finally got out of the way for a moment, and I could not be happier with the end result!

I paired the shrug with a Gallery Serpentine overbust corset in black brocade. It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the shrug in person, and turned out the be the perfect companion for it. The neckline/collar of the shrug gives me a vintage vibe, so I decided to tackle some victory rolls for a change of pace. The last time I did my hair like this was about 4 years ago – my first attempt turned out brilliant but all subsequent efforts failed miserably. Victory rolls in 3-foot long hair are incredibly challenging, so I put the whole thing out of my head for ages. Lately I’ve been feeling the urge to give them another shot. With a little practice and a TON of hairspray, they turned out satisfactory. I felt the hair style called for an understated, vintage makeup look consisting of thin eyebrows, black liquid eyeliner and red lips.

You can read more about the process of sewing this beautiful piece in Pixel Pixie’s post. She writes on her blog that she happy to do custom work, repairs or alterations, so if you have something special in mind be sure to contact her!

She also happens to be hosting a fun “Guess My Halloween Costume” giveaway over on her blog. It’s running from October 24-30, with new clues being given each day. Be sure to check out her blog and join in!

VictorianKitty, Circa 2000

I thought for a change of pace I would delve into my photo archive and show you a club outfit from 12 years ago or so! This was a fun outfit, but I much prefer the more regal, sophisticated style I have now.

A lot less Victorian, but still all Kitty! ๐Ÿ™‚ And that Gallery Serpentine corset is still going strong, although I lace it a bit tighter these days.
