Black and Black. :)

Don’t forget, Red & Black Week starts next Sunday, June 1, at 12 AM Pacific time. Β I’ve been busily preparing my posts today so I will have them all ready to go and not fall behind next week. Β However, in the meantime, I wanted to throw in an all-black outfit before the colorful festivities begin!

Elegant Cowl-Neck Blouse

Mr. Kitty and I spent a lovely Sunday having lunch and antique shopping. I was in the mood for a look that was somewhere in between Goth and Vintage, so I settled on an elegant cowl-neck top wit amazing detailing in the back, plus a simple brocade pencil skirt from Target.

We didn’t actually buy anything on this shopping trip, but we had a wonderful, leisurely day just strolling around together with no worries.

I haven’t had much opportunity to feel like I am truly connected with myself lately. It’s all been work and then just trying to keep up with everything life has been throwing at us. I think sometimes it’s incredibly important, for those of us who are “different”, to just drop everything and spend a day living by our own rules, wearing whatever empowers us, and just celebrating being individuals. I find the best way to achieve this is to get OUT of the house, away from any place where responsibilities are constantly looming, and break whatever routine we’ve been stuck in.

It’s funny how a beautiful item of clothing can feel so good to wear, even if the most amazing touches are in the back where we can’t see them. Here’s detail of the back of the blouse:

And here’s a rare guest appearance by Little Miss Persephone, who absolutely hates being held and having her photo taken. πŸ™‚

How do you spend your free days when you find you need to get back in touch with yourself?

  1. As always, simply stunning.

  2. I have that skirt. I love it for work. It’s unique without being completely over the top.

Lately we’ve been doing the “what do you want to do?” “I don’t know. What do you want to do?” dance and getting nowhere.

  4. I love creating, especially making jewellery and painting. If I’m stuck for inspiration I sort my beads out. It’s remarkably therapeutic πŸ™‚

  5. Great post Miss Kitty! I have been really lazy about dressing up and doing makeup lately. Thats because of studies, work, and stuff at home. I agree with you that you need to get out of the house and do fun things together.
That top is so lovely, I like the combination of textures and patterns. Black is definitely not boring πŸ™‚

    • I totally understand – we’ve had many days lately where responsibilities and exhaustion have overshadowed my desire to celebrate myself. Sometimes it is unavoidable, I guess. Hope you will find some time very soon to get back to yourself!

  6. During ‘down time’ I like to walk the dog along the seafront to a cafe in a very picturesque town called Tynemouth, where we can lurk in the railway station out of the usually inclement British weather and eat bacon butties and read the papers in complete peace. Then hop on a train back home! The village has lots of lovely small shops (all dog friendly), so it’s a great place to go browse and buy something cute (and the most amazing hand made chocolate shop).

Beautiful outfit, as ever. I’ve been contemplating red & black week and realised I have very little red in my wardrobe – lots of purple and dark green, but no real reds. Hmmm….!

    • Ah, your description makes me want to skip the rest of the work day. πŸ™‚ Especially the part about the chocolates!!

Well, feel free to include some reddish-purple, or maybe you have something in burgundy? Creativity is welcomed, so feel free to stretch the rules a bit as long as you more or less adhere to the theme!

      • After posting this I then face palmed myself when realising that my new Hell Bunny frock is indeed….red & black (and a little bit of white!). D’oh!

  7. lovely as usual. and adorable kitteh. I’m always running around all over town, so on my days off, I stay home and play video games. My husband drags me to the beach or shopping or wherever once a weekend though.

  8. I love your hair as always! That skirt looks expensive, and so pretty with the top. I used to have a little grey tuxedo kitty- she was the sweetest thing, and such a quiet little voice. πŸ™‚
I often crave solitude, so when life is crazy some quiet time to myself, to do whatever I want, is a welcome change. I love to be around horses, or curled up with a book, or watching some anime or a movie. I also love date nights and little vacations with just the hubby. I have the best kid in the world, but he can be tiring!

  9. That top is gorgeous! You look lovely in it. πŸ™‚

  10. That outfit is absolutely stunning! I’ve been thinking a lot recently about what “goth” means and how goth might evolve to reflect where you are in your life… or where you want to be. These photos have crystallized an amorphous idea I’ve had floating about in my mind. This is the goth aesthetic ideal that I’m yearning for at this point in my life. πŸ™‚

  11. Oh my that skirt is gorgeous.
