Welcome to the exciting first day of Red & Black Week! Well, I’m excited, anyway. 😉 Last year on the first day we had 33 excellent entries covering a variety of topics (fashion, beauty, art, literature, food and cars). Think we can surpass that number this year?
I’m kicking off the event with a fun weekend look, featuring a darling velvety dress I picked up at Forever 21 ages ago.
It originally wasn’t an ideal fit, being an a-line dress. I envisioned it being more elegant if it were form-fitting, so Momma Kitty took it in for me. That’s when I realized how empowering it us to be able to do some basic alterations at home, so she taught me the basics and I bought my own sewing machine. I’ve altered probably 20% of my wardrobe pieces since then, mostly nipping in the waist to accommodate the curves!
This dress is a forgotten favorite for me! I often pass it up because it’s terrible for wearing around the house (velvet + cat hair = frustration!) but I really love it for a day out with Mr. Kitty.
The shrug is a recent purchase from a random mall store. And I think I’ve worn this cross necklace for every Red & Black Week so far. I think I will make it a tradition! 🙂
