Mid-Month Status Report: My Go-To Work Outfit

Trystan of This is CorpGoth has started a mid-month theme! I love blog events that bring people together, and in true CorpGoth fashion she has chosen work attire as this month’s topic. More specifically, your go-to work look. At my previous job, that would have been a maxi skirt and a feminine top, but at my current office I find myself inspired to achieve a more traditional business look. Not that I’ve banished the maxi skirts – they still have their place in my work wardrobe but I try to balance them out more with pencil skirts and blazers (especially on meeting days).

I’ve had this dark grey pencil skirt from Target for a while now, and it is getting a ton of use. It’s basic, goes with everything, and is a nice break from black (keeps the new co-workers from asking so many questions). I very recently scored the purple cowl-neck shell on sale at Macy’s, and I’m having a hard time not wearing it every day. πŸ˜‰ The blazer came from some random clothing store ages ago. Short-sleeve blazers are awesome in that they project a professional image without being at all stuffy. I chose to go unbuttoned today to show off more of the shell, and give a slightly more casual vibe.

What is your go-to look for work? Head on over to This is CorpGoth and share!

  1. LOVE the colour of your shell! And your nails match!! πŸ˜€

  2. WOW, really pretty necklace. I agree, grey goes with everything! I have a pair of grey Merona slacks from Target that I’ve had for YEARS because they go with everything.

  3. Very elegant outfit! I agree with you about green pencil skirt. They come lovely with so many combinations and it’s a very nice option from black.

Love your website, greetings from Brazil!

  4. I adore the combo of grey & plum! Grey is just *so* sophisticated yet also edgy. And pencil skirts are perfectly professional. Love this look!

I just posted my status report if you’d like to link up: http://corpgoth.blogspot.com/2012/10/status-report-dress-cardigan-are-my.html

  5. Plum and grey look so good together, and the cowl neckline on the shell is very flattering. I loving the short sleeved blazer, so cute yet professional! Your husband has wonderful taste in jewellery. πŸ™‚

  6. I just love that necklace! Seems a lot like a certain famous necklace from a movie about an early 20th cent. shipwreck though. πŸ™‚

  7. Agreed, plum gray and black are always classic together. Cowl neck really highlights that beautiful pendant. I think you hit the traditional office tone really well.

  8. Just found your blog, and OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your office looks. I just spend the past 30 minutes downloading all your work looks to me “I’d Wear That” image reference folder. The way you give those office looks a darkly feminine twist really states POWER. I love all the grey and black neutrals paired with a splash of color! I wouldn’t really say I’m a goth… I’m a big fan of Japanese Gothic Lolita fashion but I’m approaching 30 and it’s beginning to get a bit twee for me. Your looks are graceful, mature and timeless; yet sexy, flirty and very feminine! You’ve definitely given me a lot of inspiration! I’ll be coming back. πŸ˜€

    • Hi Serena, thank you so much for your nice words! I’m honored to become a part of your “I’d Wear That” folder. πŸ˜‰ I don’t think you should feel inhibited toward Gothic Lolita styles just because of your age. You might feel more comfortable adapting characteristics of such styles to suit you personally, but I think age is no reason to give up a look that you love. πŸ™‚
