Roses and Pearls

Today’s outfit is a mix of repeats. I’ve worn this abstract floral print skirt from Speigel several times. The top from New York and Co. has only been on my blog once before, more than a year ago. This time, I paired it with faux pearl earrings and bracelets because I knew they would be the perfect complements to my treasured locket.

I’ve shown you this delicate mother of pearl locket before, but I wasn’t too great at getting clean shots of tiny details at that time, so here is a good close-up. Also, I never showed you what is inside! When Mr. Kitty presented this to me, he placed a picture of each of us in each side, cut from one of our favorite couple photos at that time.

He asked me to make a chain for the locket because it came with a boring silver box chain and he knew I would come up with something to do the pendant justice. I decided on a draped sterling silver chain with mother of pearl beads. I bought all of the supplies from Fire Mountain Gems, my favorite online bead source.

Now, if only I could get the locket to stay facing forwards at all times while being worn… It has a nasty habit of flipping upside down whenever I bend the slightest bit!

Have you ever made modifications to a piece of jewelry to make it more unique and special to you?

Oh wow, the necklace is stunning! I love the chain you made, it sits beautifully. What a lovely gift from Mr Kitty! I often modify jewellery. It seems to be common to get a nice pendant on a cheap looking and/or boring chain, so it is just begging to be re-vamped.

    • Really, I don’t know how designers can stand to see their lovely designs sold in such boring, cheap chains. But that gives us creative types an opportunity to transform those pieces into one of a kind masterpieces. ;)

Would adding another jump ring help the pendant spinning?

  3. So pretty! I love that blouse — the rosettes are just beautiful. I agree with Tante, maybe another jump ring. Or maybe straighten out the post a bit more. Sometimes all it takes is the slightest tweak to the loop. You did a gorgeous job on that necklace. MUAH!

YOu look lovely! I think you did a nice work with the pendant. I know I have a couple of necklaces that behaves like that and I have problems with solving it too. I think it’s fabulous with the pearls in your ear, with three different sizes along the earlobe, it looks so nice!

You shop at Fire Mountain too! YES. They have the best stuff.
That locket is gorgeous and you did such a beautiful job on the chain. Makes me want to buy myself a locket (I’ve been wanting one) and put together a chain for it (or a ribbon). Hmm, I’m thinking Swarovski pearls in Bordeaux…

The whole look is very soft and romantic. Tres chic. :)

Lovely – you and the jewelry! How sweet of Mr. Kitty to give you such a personalized and thoughtful gift. I really adore the chain you came up with to showcase the locket!

If you ever solve the spinning pendant problem let me know- I’ve tried adding extra jump rings to no avail and I have too many necklaces with this very same issue!

What a lovely locket and looks great together with the pearls :) I always love to make my jewelry personal, even if it’s frankenstein-ing several things together.

Aaaw, lockets like yours are so lovely and classy! I believe adding one more ring would solve the problem, or you could try to use a clothing patch, it works for me. ^^

The chain you made for your lovely locket is incredible! I’m going to have to experiment with that type of neckline next time I feel like making something (the occasions are few and far between, sadly)
