Happy Summer, Goths! ;) Wow, is it getting hot here in Southern California. That means car show season is in full swing.  Thankfully, this particular event was farther south in the state and a bit cooler than the area we live in. I really needed a fun weekend event to get dressed up as the “real me” and forget about the new job for an afternoon, so this was a good day for me.

Usually I prefer to take my photos in my climate-controlled studio, but sometimes I just don’t have time before we have to get out the door. We were lucky at this show to find a very picturesque spot for Mr. Kitty to snap a few photos. It was even a bit away from the crowds so I didn’t feel too self-conscious hamming it up in public…

Of course, despite the heat I kept my arms covered from the evil sunshine with a pair of homemade sleeves. I’m also wearing the jacket-turned-shrug and lace tank top combo that I featured long, long ago, and my Magic Hair buns.

Those of you in the northern hemisphere, have you had any “fun in the sun” so far this summer?

I love your outfit, especially the boots!

I don’t know why, but this is the first post I’ve been able to open since you moved your blog over to the new site. It wasn’t even a 404 page that was displayed but the one you get when there’s something wrong with the internet connection. I’m sorry I can’t provide better details, but I’m glad it seems to be working now :) .

    • Thanks! It’s actually not uncommon for some servers to take up to a few days to find a URL after it’s been moved. Any time you visit a Web site, the request has to go through a huge network of servers across the world to connect your computer to the site you are looking for. So it can take a while for all of those servers to get the message. :) Seems to be working world-wide now, so I’m happy!

  2. Stunning outfit! Especially the boots and the locket necklace.
I’ve been following this blog for a while before adding you with Google Friend Connect, and your outfits are always so elegant and classy, sometimes sexy but never vulgar. I love your sense of style, you’re a great source of fashion inspiration to me :)

That’s such a beautiful outfit! :) Parasols are so great at summer. Here in Sweden it’s very unusual to see people carrying parasols so I always get stupid comments like “It’s not raining to day!” when I carry one. It’s hilarious actually. :)

    Have a lovely day!

    • lol! I’ve had similar comments. Parasols aren’t seen often even here in So Cal, which is surprising considering how sunny it is! It’s not unusual to see Hispanic ladies carrying umbrellas in the sun, but for some reason other people just don’t see how wise it is.

Woah, i really love your shoes! They are adoreable :) And the skirt is beautiful as well (ah, the whole outfit is!)
    Greetings

…you must be a superhuman or something. Such a bright sun, that it feels hot even when looking at the pictures – and you are wearing all black, with knee-high boots, opera-length gloves and perfect make-up. And the umbrella isn’t helping me with overcoming this feeling, either. Creepy! I’m sure I’d be dead in the puddle of sweat after 5 minutes walking in this outfit in such weather.
Though I believe an outfit that pretty is worth enduring a little pain ;)

    • Thankfully it was not as hot as usual that day, and we had a bit of a breeze. You can see me chilling in the shade in that last picture. ;-D But I totally agree; I don’t mind being a bit uncomfortable to look fabulous. ;)

LOVE THESE! Great on location shots! Your sunglasses are fabulous – and of course everything else about your outfit! Look at you sporting tall boots despite the heat! Elegant Goth and lovely!

  7. You look gorgeous! I love the first photo: you need pixie wings. :)

  8. M says:

Where did you get your parasol? It’s lovely!
Well, the whole outfit is lovely, of course–I love how the boots go with the lace top!

    Boots in summer?
    You’re a mad woman ;) … I gave up in march.
    It looks faboulous.

    • lol! You’re smart. Actually, this day wasn’t really super hot, so it wasn’t quite so bad in the boots. Sometimes they are just the perfect finishing touch for an outfit, so I have to ignore the season. :)

Wow! You look absolutely fabulous! I love this ‘all gothed up’ outfit. The locket and the boots and the lovely umbrella are my favourite elements. I’m amazed how punky your hair looks here compared to your usual styles.

Summer where I am is mostly rain and midges. Bleh. We’ve had a couple good days. I was out clambering over rocks above Inverness at Craig Phadrig yesterday – black 3/4 length combats, black button-up shirt, black tank-top, black hiking-boots, black bandana (with three raven feathers tucked in the back), studded cuff that won’t catch on much, etc. Practical outdoors-goth. I’m a bit concerned about ticks, though, so I’m going to be opting for full-length combats tucked into (stripy) long socks in future, even if it gets hotter. Hot legs is better than ticks.

    • Ugh, ticks! I grew up in the Midwestern US so I am no stranger to those horrid creatures. Just about anything is better than ticks! Stay covered as much as possible, for sure!!

  11. The homemade sleeves are awesome! I bought a pair of long stripey armwarmers once, but they kept falling down my arm and driving me crazy… How do you get yours to stay up?

    • I make them very snug so they stay up. If you have a loose pair, you could maybe sew a narrow channel at the top and insert a loop of 1/4″ wide elastic. I had to do that to a pair of knit armwarmers I bought a long time ago, and it worked great. The sleeves just have to be long enough that you can afford to shorten them a bit in order to create the channel.

  12. I love the magic hair buns! I used to have that skirt actually, but mine had a little mishap in the dryer, I cried.

  13. Lynoire says:

Oh, my…how can you look so fabulous even in the summer heat? ^^

I love these photos! Although your studio photos are always so neat, it’s nice to see pictures like this sometimes too! ^^

    • I’m glad you like them! I do like to do something a bit different once in a while to keep things interesting. And your “on location” shots are always so nice, they are inspiring!

  14. Kallie says:

Where did you get those sunglasses? They are lovely! (As is your whole outfit!)

  15. Violette B. says:

Loving your outfit, specially the boots and skirt. Such an amazing coord!
Summer is not being specially hot in the north of Spain, so I can go out in my vaporous black dresses as much as I want to. Unfortunately, that is just for evenings. I got a new teaching assistant position and dresscode is strict as I am involved with small kids. Sometimes it is really annoying have to forget about the “real you” because of social conventions, isn´t it?

    • I totally know what you mean. It can be so stifling to have to play the game at work… But I still think it’s worth it to have a great job. We just have to appreciate our non-work time that much more, and make the most of it!

  16. Snowhyte says:

You look great and I like the change of scenery from the studio sometimes :) I think where I am I need to invest in parasols!!

  17. Traicetrak says:

You look like a candidate for “Goths in Summer” in these pics! Way to handle the heat in style. You look absolutely stunning. I’m envying the whole look you have going on.

Speaking of the heat, I am MELTING here in south Alabama. OMG, the daily rainstorms have made the humidity absolutely oppressive. You should come visit! Hahaha.

  18. Those boots! That hair!

    You always look amazing :)

  19. Clementine Dahling says:

It’s very refreshing to see you in a new setting. Man, Mr. Kitty is excellent at photography- none of my outdoor photos ever turn out that good! But I do only have a very measly, super cheap digital camera.

Wherever did you get the lovely parasol?

  20. Heather says:

You look so lovely, as you always do <3

It must be really difficult being a goth in such a warm climate… i'm having trouble staying cool in Finland, and it's a miracle if temperatures rise over +22 Celsius here, even in mid-summer :D

    • Lol! It can be tough out here during the summer. I’m pretty sensitive to sun, so I’m better off keeping covered even if it does make me warmer. Then I just stay inside through the worst of it… It’s been over 100 F most of the last three weeks, so I go to work and nowhere else during the day!

I could handle 22 C, for sure! ;) Want to trade?
