It’s a holiday!! That means I’m finally taking a break from thinking about nothing but work and breaking out a fun “weekend” outfit. Today’s polka dot halter top from Venus needed some minor alterations (so much for their consistent sizing), but it turned out to be a wonderful buy. This is the perfect summer piece because it is made from a very lightweight fabric. I love the vintage flair it gets from the dots and the halter styling.
Whenever I want my look to go more vintage, I use flesh-toned stockings (or fishnets) rather than black. They lend more variety to my wardrobe and keep me from getting in a boring uber-Goth rut.
This look also calls for true red lipstick, such as this one from Mary Kay called “Red.” I was totally sold on the color, but I find this lipstick to be quite dry. It’s my only Mary Kay lipstick purchase so far, so I don’t know if their entire line is dry or if I just got a bad one.
This is kinda what I think Goth would have looked like if it had started in the 40s rather than the late 70s. Crosses, jet-black long hair, and bold eyeliner with elegant, mostly-black clothing in very feminine styles.
This cross came from Shrine Hollywood, and the bracelet is from Macy’s.
What by-gone era influences you the most in terms of fashion?

Hi, darling!I think you hit it with your outfit one comer. Totally perfect for summer. I am very fond of pinup inspired looks for summer, it´s so much lighter than my regular classic goth style in the winter (velvet in hot weather? I don´t think so ;P ).I relation to vintage inspiration, I always try to wink at victorian, flapper and edwardian styles. Very classy to!
P.D: Oh, sorry I meant "to hit it once again".
Wonderful as always! I particularly like the pin up influenced style on you, although I miss I admit it's missing something
like one of your cute fluffy cats.
I just adore this outfit! I am starting to get into the whole gothabilly / rockabilly style myself. The polka dots really suit you and I love the wavy/crimpy effect in your hair. Did you crimp your hair? It looks splendid.
It's a lovely summer look! ^^I also like vintage fashion, mostly the shapes and cuts, but I'm not really into the prints, I definitely dislike dots on myself.
This is a beautiful, fun look. I think that's why pin up style is so popular (at least, it's why I like it) It combines classy with quirky. Win/win!I keep getting drawn back to the 20's, AND I DON'T KNOW WHY!! I guess it's because that decade was so different from how we think of the early 20th century. It's like going through a secret passage into a different world. So many secrets hidden there. I also take on the 40's and 50's by spells.
I love your top! I admit to having a weakness for polka dots.
That top IS so much fun! Perfect summery Goth outfit! The bracelet and necklace seem made for each other from here- I almost swore that they were a set.I think the 30s and 40s give me a lot of influence in terms of dressing up when I can't dress very alternative (i.e. receptions, work events, etc.) But the Victorian era is, obviously, my greatest influence.
I love the halter! Very summery. I like certain things from all eras. 20s and 40s are amazing. 60s mod is fun and 70s boho. I'm even doing 80s (again). Who knew?
I have to say, I like this look. I've been looking for a way to do a casual pin up and you've seem to hit the mark. =) I think I might try something similar if it is okay.
