I must apologize for not getting to comment yet on everyone’s posts from yesterday. It was a very challenging day at work, and I just needed to rest when I finally got home. I promise tonight I will read and comment on all the posts from both yesterday and today. So keep them coming!

I bought this corset ages ago (as in, not even this century), before I knew much (as in anything) about the importance of quality in corsetry. Naturally, the plastic boning in this thing bends and bulges in very unflattering ways and is getting worse over time. Still, it’s very durable for an inexpensive piece, and I love the drama of it, so I’ll probably hang onto it until it starts to wear out.

I think pretty much every Goth girl has a corset similar to this one, so I’m definitely not winning any points for originality today! I hope my necklace by Artwith Latex can make up for that! This was the first piece I ordered from them (I’ve since acquired a choker/bracelet set), after seeing an ad in Gothic Beauty magazine. All of their pieces are amazing, and the creation process sounds like a true art form. The only problem is the necklace tends to shift gradually as I move my head throughout the evening, so I hold the center part in place with a tiny piece of fashion tape.

Today’s makeup is inspired by the work of Madame Noire. I often wear red in the crease, but I tried blending more black into it for this look. These photos are from last weekend, and naturally this week Ms. Noire did a tutorial on a more subtle use of red shadow, which I like much better than my heavy application. I love very heavy makeup in dark clubs, but next time I want a more versatile red shadow look, I’ll be using her tips for sure!

Wow, a classic gothic dramatic look. Especially your eyes are impressive – and I simply love your hair-do.The only thing I would question, is the corset. I'm not talking about bent boning, but about its size. It's too small for your chest and because of that it looks very unflattering and unrefined for such classy lady…

  3. ohlala !I totally love this kind of skirt ! and it suits you so much ! it's a very nice outfit, every detail make a classy gothic style !impressed !

  4. kakuidori says:

  8. MindLess says:

Very classy goth style! Love the necklace and the corset doesn't look like it has plastic bones… If you can sew a bit, you can replace the plastic bones with spiral steel to improve the functionality!

  9. Lesthi says:

Yes the necklace is indeed very beautiful :D and you look stunning as always <3

  18. Oh my God I LOVE that look! You look like a Gothic princess… no, a Gothic QUEEN! Sooo jealous. I wish i could pull off that kind of look, but I'm more a jeans-and-t-shirt Goth.

  19. Meg Sarentis says:

My twin sister would especially love this outfit. I will have to show it to her. That necklace is just so perfect. It screams GOT AND PROUD OF IT!

  20. Traicetrak says:

Fashion tape to hold keep a necklace/choker from shifting around = Brilliance! I'll be using that tip for sure! That necklace is to die for, and everything else complements it so nicely to let it shine. Brava!

  21. Stunning! I love the fishtail dress and the corset (even if it's not top notch quality – I can't tell that from the photos). Your eye make-up is wonderful. I have yet to experiment with red shadow.I'm glad you got some rest last night. I'd been thinking about how busy this week must be for you, with a new job, and your dedication to commenting on everyone's posts.

  22. Ria says:

I'm a fan of every outfit of yours that includes this skirt… but this is f***ing amazing. And I am definetly adding a bonus cookie for using red eyeshadow without looking bruised/ill/god knows what. *puts cookie on the table*

  23. Electrobat says:

That is a lovely Artwith piece! I have admired their work for years but have yet to purchase something. They are actually based here in Dallas!I also love the dramatic makeup!

  24. lil' bit says:

  26. Le Professeur Gothique says:

Va-Va-VOOM! Now that's what I call a super, duper HAWT outfit! You look absolutely amazing! Yes, this is a classic Ms. Kitty club outfit. :)

  27. Lynoire says:

I love everything about this look, but your make-up is especially impressive! :)

  28. I love the outfit and the corset looks brilliant. I'd like to follow your blog, but for some reason every time the page loads, the follow box disappears. Does anyone know how I can get round this?

  29. Jamie says:

Beautiful-the corset is gorgeous! I like the zipper, it adds a punky touch to the otherwise elegant shape of the corset, and the necklace is simply stunning. Love the entire look!

  30. Dramatic makeup is awesome. Especially your wistful expression in each photo. (no creeper comment intended)

  31. Simply lovely. Well, simply except for the necklace, which adds just the right touch of complexity to the outfit. The necklace itself, of course, is indeed amazing. As for the plastic boning, perhaps the corset is worth re-boning (if such a thing is possible)? Anyway, it's just a thought. I don't know much about the making or re-making of corsets; for the most part my experience is limited to helping women out of them. ;)

  32. OH MY FUCKING GOD that's beautiful.

  33. GothBarbie says:

YOU look like a TRUE GOTH BARBIE DOLL – too perfect to be real!I had an art with latex necklace i really loved – BUT it was too much maintenance for me, and it dried out a bit and I didn't have the patience to rehab it.Yours looks great! And i have a feeling you take better care yours!Red and Black look soooo good on you!

  34. Well, we are goth so of course we are all going to love this outfit on you. Even so–I was unprepared for exactly how aesthetically pleasing this post would be. You truly warmed the cockles of my tiny little plastic heart, and have revived this look for me. After so many years (longer than some posters here have been alive) seeing the same thing over and over again (corset with long black skirt) I had thought this look was dead for me, but you have breathed new life into it. Once again, your outfit is perfectly accessorized–It is too easy to go overboard with jewelry, especially when working with such a traditional silhouette. The statement piece is dramatic and sensuous yet remains tasteful and artistic. It wouldn't have been enough alone, though. The stacked bangles add just the right texture and visual interest to balance the look. Your make-up is also perfect, and–where I would have gone with blacks, greys and perhaps shimmery whites–the red, like the jewelry, draws the eye up again from the boldness of the corset and evens out the proportions of the image as a whole. Your dainty coiffure, so painstakingly arranged, and the softness of the skirt lines and the gentle drape of the fabric work in conjunction to provide a foundation of feminine elegance for the look as a whole. In less skilled hands, this outfit could have easily gone…not wrong, perhaps, but definitely in a more harsh, mundane direction. How many times have we seen the 18-21 year old, in a corset and long black skirt, clomping through the club, poor posture, smudges of dark over his or her eyes, a slash of slightly off-color lipstick, and no evidence whatsoever that the words "poise" or "composure" have ever darkened the poor soul's dictionary of life. I do not mean to be overly harsh. Perhaps we were all there at one time. What I DO mean to imply is that, this person, this image VictorianKitty has given us, embodies for me what some aspects of being goth are all about. The artfulness, the aesthetic, the beautiful strength, the self-reflection, the love of history and literature, the inner forward gaze that looks to what's best and what's possible–beyond pedestrian acceptance of the status quo…I does me good to see it. I want to thank her and also offer thanks to everyone who has participated. I have actually looked at every post, every day of red and black week. I haven't commented on any of them, I think, until now. The diversity and creativity and beauty and…(did I mention shoe envy?)…you get the point. Nevertheless I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and appreciate it more than I can say. Thank you VictorianKitty, for breathing life back into what had dried up and gone dormant for me. Everything old, is indeed, new again.
