We had a great turnout for Day One of Red & Black Week! Thank you all so much for the great kick-off. Now, it’s on to Day Two. Today, I’m bringing you one of my New Job Outfits.

Questions about this theme? Visit the Red & Black Week Rules and FAQs or e-mail me.

I was so happy to find a couple of ways to incorporate the color scheme of the week into my new job wardrobe!   I bought this red cardigan at Ross during my “OMG I need more long sleeves” panic shopping.  Coverups like this are a perfect way to utilize many of my current short-sleeve pieces without revealing any tattoos, so I’ve accumulated several different colors over the past month.

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m not a fan of loose, drapey things that hide a woman’s figure…  Adding an elastic belt from random mall store gave this outfit a lovely shape, plus that shiny buckle added some drama without going over the top with accessories (which I usually do, but haven’t built up the courage for at the new job).

I kept the rest of the outfit simple with a sleeveless mock turtleneck shell and stretchy black pencil skirt.  This skirt is currently a bit too snug in the … backside… to wear to work without a coverup, so this cardi is serving multiple purposes!!  I still need to shape up a bit after gaining 10 pounds during my “old job drama.”  My mental health has improved dramatically, so I am no longer living on a diet of red wine and chocolate, but I still haven’t gotten back in the habit of exercising. I sure miss the energy I had when I was in better shape! And that handful of my favorite skirts that are currently obscenely tight and unwearable because when I put on weight, it all goes directly to my behind!  :/

Gorgeous! Hmm, I have an oversized (but nice and warm) wool cardi I was debating about wearing this week because it's a lovely bright red…I may just have to steal this idea. :)

Another fabulous outfit! :) You really manage to combine creativity and elegance here. I love the way you've used the belt on top of the cardigan. That's so creative! :D

  8. I really like this outfit. I'm toying with the idea of heading back to work so I'm paying a little more attention to your work friendly outfits. ;) I just bought a cardi similar to this one last week, although it was black. (of course) :D

  15. linnea-maria says:

Beautiful outfit. It's not visible at all that you have gained weight. I think it was a perfect idea to use tha gather belt with the cardigan.

  16. Amy Asphodel says:

I agree with linnea-maria – I hate shapeless cardigans but love how this looks with the belt. :-)

  17. MindLess says:

I had a grey cardigan in the same style as yours today, but I got rid of it some time ago. Your pics make me regret that and I might sew a new one this weekend!

  18. Your shoes are so awesome ! I totally love it !I really always applause women who can walk with such high heels…great !

  19. I adore that red cardigan! The drape is divine.

  20. Electrobat says:

I normally hate those loose cardigans, but you really made it look great!I just put up today's post!

  21. Meg Sarentis says:

This outfit actually looks like something that Ann Taylor could approve their employees wearing- it has the same kind of "modest corporate vibe" with a splash of style. or maybe the cardigan looks all too much like the black cardigan I bought while working there over two years ago… Over, perfect for corporate goth!

  22. I managed to make it through the winter without panicking about the lack of long sleeves. (It's Florida so it doesn't get very cold.) Somehow, now that it's summer I've realized how badly I want some non-short sleeved tops! And um, it's SUMMER! So I'm having a temporary crisis and waiting for fall to come XD

  23. lil' bit says:

I love the long cardigan! Good idea combining a flowy article of clothing with a cinching belt to flatter your figure!

  24. Le Professeur Gothique says:

OMG! I love that belt! I have a sweater that has a similar shape. I really need to invest in some belts like this — thanks for being an inspiration! And I'm so happy that you're feeling much better. ((((HUGS))))

  25. siouxsielaw says:

This is fabulous. I'm loving these work outfits. I'm definitely getting lots of ideas from your recent dressing for the office posts.

  26. uvita says:

I am in love with that red cardiganThis outfit looks so elegant and the red add romanticisms to it.

  27. yunXhee says:

I love cardigans a lot(crochet, wool, lace, you name it, I have it), I know for sure I can never in my life pull off a red one. You look great in red. :) .

  28. Bane says:

Great use of the belt to add shape. :) I can't imagine where you've got 10 pounds hidden… but I can relate. Because of my Job Stress 10, I have many skirts hanging unworn – including one I just posted about.

  29. You totally rock that waist belt!
