Looking Forward to June…

Why, you ask, does this outfit make me think of June? Because last June was my first-ever Red and Black Week. We had so much fun with it that several participants suggested this become an annual event. So, the first week of June each year will be Sophistique Noir’s Red and Black Week. It works much like my monthly themes, but lasts a whole seven days! Plenty of time to explore different ideas revolving around this timeless Gothic Fashion color combination.

However, I certainly can’t wait until June each year to show off a bit of red and black. After all, I need the practice before the big event! Here I am wearing a Venetian lace choker with a rose cameo attached, which I showed you during the week event last year. I added a simple beaded red flower to my hair, plus matching red nails and lips.

The sweater came from Newport News years ago, but I have seen that they have this same piece in the Pyramid Collection catalog from time to time. I have to say, any time I see something in the Pyramid Collection that I’ve also seen elsewhere, it’s always much more expensive at Pyramid. But if you want something bad enough, sometimes that can be worth it. The skirt is also from Newport News, part of their Shape FX line that I recently discussed (they still have a similar one, last time I checked, if you are interested!).  And yes, it’s also the skirt I wore for my fairy outfit post last weekend.  Sorry for the immediate repeat.  ;)

So, have you guys been stocking up on things for Red and Black Week?

I think there should also be other weeks placed randomly….like my favorite combo, black and purple, and maybe even black and white and black and grey. Have one like ever season, like grey be winter white be fall purple be spring? Just an idea! :)

Oooh, gorgeous! And I can't wait for red and black week-a bunch of the stuff I brought with me is red and black, so I think I'm pretty well stocked on that count. That doesn't mean I won't take the advantage to buy more, though. :)

That sweater is beautiful. At first, I thought your sister had made it for you, as you had told before how good she is in chrocheting. The venetian lace cameo is so nice. I've considering to look for lace pieces next time I go to a fabric store to make a choker myself.

Ohhhh! Red and black week! I will have to plot and plan :) You look lovely in that sweater, I love the sleeves, so elegant and gothy.

Oh, my! I totally forgot about the red and black event, so now I got excited! I think I´ll be participating next June. By the way, is any shade of red allowed? I mean, is possible to choose scarlet, crimson etc or we must choose the classic Russian Red?Regards!

  8. Just the right touch of red to your black. And a stunning sweater, I love the holey goodness. Elegant but without many "parts" so to speak~. I definitely think I want to get that sweater [my fondness for off-the-shoulder things is growing].

  9. Lynoire says:

Wow, good news! ;) I was just wondering yesterday if you'd repet the Red and Black Week, because I missed it lat year. :) That sweater is so pretty! Does Newport News have a website? A working one, I mean, because if I google it, it reports an error…:/

I think I can be placed in the "want something bad enough" category because that top is simply beautiful. I think I need to keep an eye out for it on Pyramid's website.

  11. Britt, I *love* your suggestion!! Sadly, I don't have time to commit to any additional blog events right now, but maybe by the time the June event has come and gone and the next season is upon us, my life might slow down a bit.kakuidori, lol! No, you sound perfectly normal to me. ;) And if you want to participate in Red and Black week, you can definitely rely on hair, makeup and nails for the Red part!lil' bit, thanks!!Jamie, yay! So glad to hear you are prepared. But yes, you definitely should go shopping still, just in case! ;-Dlinnea-maria, chokers like this would be so easy to make! I know you would come up with something amazing.Meagan Kyla, thanks! I hope you'll be participating in Red & Black Week!Violette, yes! Absolutely any shade of red counts. I'll be including both bright reds and darker burgundies in my posts for the theme.Sir Isaak, you should get it! It's a great way to achieve comfy elegance.Lynoire, it's http://www.newport-news.com – however, I don't think they currently carry this sweater. Pyramid Collection might have stopped carrying it because it's summer, but I'm sure they'll have it back in the fall. They've had it for like the last three years!MissRivett, keep an eye out for it in the fall! It looks like they might have stopped carrying sweaters for the summer. :(

I've seen a sweater in a shop in the Netherlands that looks very much like this one and now I want it even more. I will wait for the Summer sales and then I will strike, haha! :pHow wonderful that Red&Black week is going to be an annual event! I will make sure to stock up on posts with this theme. Can't be too hard, with both my favorite colors.
