Flowy, Drapey Silk

Oh, how I love this uber-romantic silk skirt from Newport News. I love it so much, in fact, that you will be seeing a record number of photos today! I try never to go with more than three or four, or maybe five for a special occasion, but between the skirt and other fabulous details on this outfit, I just couldn’t choose my favorite shots.

Despite the crazy number of photos, I still failed to capture the delicate beading that flirts with the bottom edge of this skirt. Look closely – it is there, and it is fabulous.

A skirt this gorgeous deserves nothing but the best accompaniment. I paired it with a simple, ruched-sleeve sweater from Frederick’s, a lightweight crocheted scarf (a gift from my mom), and two Christmas presents from Mr. Kitty: fingerless satin gloves from Greatlookz and this stunning Orthodox Cross Locket from Alchemy Gothic. And my typical ankle-strap platform heels from Pleaser.

While we were out of town over the holidays, I was having crazy urges to put my hair “up.” The climate where we were visiting was so different for the desert I am used to that I couldn’t do a thing with it other than a tight, low bun (and a few artificial embellishments) so as soon as we got home, I went into a huge Loose Bun on Top of Head phase. You’ll be seeing that look from time to time over the next few months!

This particular evening, I adorned the bun with a feather hair clip from Forever 21, three homemade rose flower clips and a curled tendril. No, my hair doesn’t hold curls. Not with heat, gel, hairspray, setting lotion or a combination of all of the above. That’s okay, as I was happy with the slight wave I ended up with by the time I was finished taking the photos!

My nails aren’t black, but rather a very, very dark plum. Okay, basically black, but really not black! ;)

  1. You usually look beautiful, but today you look absolutely gorgeous. Out of necessity I've had to drift away from Gothic dress (lots of weight gain and only hand-me-downs from "normal" ppl to dress in), and now that I've lost the weight, none of my old things are appropriate, being from my teen years, though I'm only in my mid-twenties. I was a little afraid to dive back in and end up looking foolish, but between you and Le Professeur Gothique, I've been comforted with the knowledge of how to dress not only appropriately for this stage in my life, but with the flair for Dark that I love.Thank you so much!!!

Great look! Also lovely hairstyle :-) Have you done a post on your hair care routine? I was just curious about what hair products you use (shampoo, conditioner, color, styling products). J.E.

  5. I really like this outfit to-day. The shoulders I think are my favourite part.

Lovely! I adore your bow gloves! You really know how to pull an outfit together with accessories. I always talk about effortless chic and you are the queen my dear!

  7. This look is stunning. I'm musing over what I'm going to wear tonight and I think I'm going to channel you. :) I was thinking with going long and flowy anyway, regardless if Auxiliry Magazine says it's national EBM day. :) No but really, this is gorgeous and your hair is the icing.

I love your hair in these photos! I wish I could get my hair that long but I swear it quits growing at a certain length.

It's a stunning look! I think, these 'put up' hairstyles fit your face shape very nicely. The skirt and the bow gloves are amazing and I like, that you wore them with a pretty, but rather simple top, so the outfit stayed elegant instead of being 'too much'…:)

I actually have that skirt :) It's my favorite one to wear in the club. Unfortunately, it's so old that the waistband is all stretched out and it doesn't quite fit anymore. I'll have to learn how to put a new band in there and fix it :(

This is a fabulous outfit, from the beautiful skirt to the scarf and your hair. It does deserve the multiple photos! Congrats as well on your blogiversary. :)

  12. Le Professeur Gothique says:

Oh that skirt is absolutely to die for!!!! And your hair! WOW! You look more amazing than usual, which is pretty freaking awesome. *insert wolf whistle here* Stunning.

  13. I love the curled tendril~ yay, a piece of gratuitous long hair shot, haha. The hair accessories are a great finish to the rest your outfit, the way that the edges are not all uniform or neat.Nothing wrong with more photos~ go ahead and show them off~ ^_^I think I love the way your skirt and shirt are more simple when viewed on a whole, yet shine with the smaller details like the ruching and beading. Absolutely love the mega cross, too.

  14. The Alchemy Gothic necklace is WOW!..and so are you! ;) I'm loving the hairstyle!!♥B-Dark——-gothicdivinemagazine.blogspot.com

  16. angelwhisper, I'm happy to hear that you are moving back toward being YOU! It is definitely more challenging to maintain individuality as you are moving into "responsible adulthood." :) But you do reach a point where you become more comfortable with who you are and become less self-conscious about your individuality. Don't give that up!!je9601, I haven't done a post on my hair care routine, but I'd be happy to! Thank you for the suggestion.Amy, aww! Thank you, sweetie!! :) kakuidori, thanks! I will definitely put one on the schedule.Charlotte, I *love* poofy, ruched shoulders. :) Meagan Kyla, these gloves are my new favorite. Thank you for the kind words.Lady Bethezda, yay for wearing flowy dresses on EBM day! ;-D Sometimes I try to "dress the part" for the Industrial club but other times I just want to wear what I love most, which is usually more elegant. :) Phells, that tendril is actually shorter than most of my hair (I used to keep longish side-bangs and they are still growing out). I'm glad you like this style!Lynoire, thanks! Having long hair, sometimes it's nice to just get it all up off of my neck. :) Le Professeur, sweet! You just made my day. :) Anonymous, awesome! It's a fabulous skirt, indeed. I've been lucky with the elastic so far, but replacing it should be fairly manageable. I hope you are able to fix it!!Ms. Lou, thanks! I'm glad the photo spam wasn't too obnoxious. ;) Sir Isaak, I love these understated details, too. Sometimes I go for too many things that are blatantly unique and loaded with character, and forget how lovely the simple details can be. I really wanted the new locket to shine, so simplicity in the outfit was key. But I still needed plenty of flowing fabric. :) BallerinaDark, thank you!! :) This is definitely one of my all-time favorite necklaces.Magickafoot, thank you! Oooh, how exciting to have made my first Year Two post. I'm planning some different stuff (based on reader requests) for the next few weeks, so I hope everyone will enjoy the upcoming posts!

I love this look. I especially love the way the loose tendril fancies it up (where I usually think it dresses an outfit down).
