This fun sweater came from Macy’s long ago. I used to wear it tons, but now it’s a bit shabby and starting to pill. I suppose I could attack it with a clothes shaver… They work quite well in my experience, but I never seem to find the time to devote to it. Even our precious little TV time (we actually don’t watch TV, and only about one Netflix movie a week) is spent doing projects, brushing cats, catching up on blog commenting, painting my nails or waxing my legs.
I thought this Gallery Serpentine corset would be a good way to hide some of the pilling and get a few more wears out of this sweater before I really have to decide to groom it or toss it. Adding a dramatic brooch, in addition to the fun faux fur collar, distracts you from its flaws a bit too.
I’m tempted to go on and on about this super-fun skirt, but I won’t. Namely because I already blogged it once, so I encourage you to go read that post. See how I get added value out of my old posts by reminding you about them once you have forgotten? ;-D
Pardon the silly post title today. I could only partially picture Cruella in my head but that’s just the thought that occurred to me in looking at the photos. Maybe it’s the crazy bit of Magic Hair peaking out, or the collar on that sweater. Or the curvy corseted silhouette . Or all of the above. Either way, I realize I don’t look a thing like Cruella here, but when one really needs a post title one tends to stretch it a bit…
These days, I’m not a fan of animated movies… But I’ll always kinda love Disney villainesses. Who’s your favorite?

Wow! That skirt is beautiful! I'm a newcomer to your blog and its really inspiring! I wish I had the confidence to wear more of a gothic clothing style again <3 Jane xox
definately Ursula the sea witch from the little mermaid. She was a curvy vixen, and I always got the feeling that her evil doing was a result of her unrequited love for ariel's dad. a broken heart can make a woman do some evil ish.I vote to save the sweater.
Aaaw, I hear you about the blog titles, I can never come up with anything that would make sense, just silly thing.:)My favorite is definitely Maleficent, she turns into a dragon, how cool is that?! x)I vote for saving the sweater too, it's cute and the skirt is still superamazing!
I'm rather a fan of Yzma, but if it had been any voice but Eartha Kitt's, I'm not sure I'd be so enamoured. And Cruella has the best hair. Someday, I'll be brave enough for full Cruella hair.
I always thought Lady Tremain (from Cinderella) and The Wicked Queen (from Snow White) were much more glamorous than their stepdaughters.
I always loved Cruella, she's fabulous and we share a love of furs.
Maleficent and Ursula are my faves, Maleficent because she turns into a purple dragon, Ursula because she's so ambitious and I've always loved the song 'Poor Unfortunate Souls'.
I think we've got a pretty general consensus in favor of Ursula and Maleficent.
i think mine would be mr. snoops from the rescuers XDbut i also would join the others on ursula!are gallery serpentines corsets steel boned? you look great as always ^_^
You are simply awesome.
The broach is lovely
My favourite villianess is the Wicked Queen from Snow White.
I LOVE this look! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! A corset over sweaters and other opaque fabrics is unexpected and quite beautiful in my opinion. And that brooch is gorgeous.hmmm … my favorite Disney Villainess? Ursula and Maleficent: both witches, one works her curves like nobody's business, the other is a snappy dresser.
You look beautiful. My favorite Disney villainess is Madam Mim (The Sword In The Stone). She turns into a dragon, too. Into a pink and purple dragon…
I adore this outfit! I love the skirt and corset and the way you wear your hair. Just curious, would you wear this outfit to work? Do you consider it work appropriate? Just wondering about that. Not sure whether one should wear a corset to work or not. What are your thoughts?
I never thought of wearing a fitted sweater with a corset! It looks wonderful and cozy! Hrmmm once again you have my brain meats twirling with ideas, thank you!Silly and personal question: What do you use to wax your legs. I'm always looking for a non-shaving option that WORKS!
I love the skirt! My favorite Villainess is probably Maleficent, or Yzma.
Well, you did say 'feeling' like Cruella, rather than looking like. Naturally, it all works out~. I find that most solid color things, especially black, have a natural tendency to hide their own flaws. I can't see any shaggyness with your sweater~Maybe it's because of your ring theme this month, but I'm noticing all your jewelry more~. And I love that color for your nails. That brooch is simply splendid~! Hmmm… Malificent is probably my favorite for as formidable as she is [which carried over into Kingdom Hearts]. Mother Marquis' favorite is Ursula.
Jane, thank you! What kind words. I think, if you are still attracted to the style, try easing into it a little bit again!
Alexandriaweb, the Wicked Queen was always my favorite, too. I much prefer the old-school villainesses!
Le Professeur, thanks! I thought it was a fun combination, and the corset makes it extra warm. Ah, Maleficent. I always thought she was the most beautiful!!Lynn Brooks, I love Ursula because she's purple!
I love your theory – it totally explains SO much!!
Lynoire, definitely cool!! And she wore my favorite color combination.Tante, I admit I had to look Yzma up. A bit new-school for me! ;-D But I was delighted to find that she's purple, too. What's up with the color purple and evil female cartoon characters? lol.Mira, Lady Tremain had the BEST wardrobe. Such Victorian elegance. I agree; I always wondered what the appeal was for the ditzy little step-daughters.
MissGracie, I was always in love with Cruella's figure, and her amazing glamor!Julianne, Ursula did have the best songs.akumaxkami, those are definitely the favorites. I'm telling you, it's all about the purple!
kakuidori, I had forgotten The Rescuers. I loved that movie as a kid. Gallery Serpentine offers steel boning as an option, but (at least as of the last time I ordered) their default is plastic. Which I find extremely surprising, considering the quality of their word. I think steel boning was only an additional $15 dollars. I've gone for the steel in all the corsets I've ordered from them.teaneko, what a lovely comment! Thank you!!
Sasha, no, I would not wear this to work. I would wear the sweater and the skirt (only on days I didn't have any meetings) but not the corset. Of course, it depends on the job, but in an office I would advise never wearing a visible corset to work unless it was an extremely artistic environment.Sal, I don't think I ever saw The Sword in the Stone! Talk about old-school Disney. I'll have to check it out on Netflix! Ooh, I totally love her hair – and again, PURPLE!Meagan, lol! Nicely put, and thank you!
I ordered a GiGi wax warmer from Amazon, after failing with several grocery store brands. The GiGi system works amazingly well: just as well as the professional waxes I've had done. I do recommend having your legs waxed professionally a couple of times before attempting it at home, as you can learn a lot from their techniques.Aristocratic Elegance, thanks! Those are two interesting top choices, only because they seem so different. I haven't seen The Emperor's New Groove, so I will definitely have to check it out.Sir Isaak, yes, black does hid a lot.
Malificent and Ursula are definitely the winners of this survey!
Ooh, your brooch is lovely-and I love the whole effect of the outfit. I know I'm in the minority here, but my favorite Disney villainess in Yzma, from The Emporer's New Groove. She is so snarky and ridiculous and hilarious, and just makes me laugh like no other.
I love this! Especially the fur collar and brooch!
You look terrific! My favorite is Maleficent, even when she turns up in a dragon, I think she´s lovely XD.
Love the cameo! Maleficent is my favorite Disney villainesse. I dressed up as (my own version of) her for Halloween one year.
