Still Getting Used to Red Shoes

I think you’ve already seen most of the elements of this outfit, just not together. I wore the blazer fairly recently, but in a very different look. The pants are just generic, “nicer than jeans but not as fancy as slacks” that I bought at Macy’s last spring (and had to alter heavily, because they just don’t make pants that fit me!).

These are the red shoes I bought on my birthday, and this is just their second appearance because I’m still not used to seeing red on my feet. I like the way the cami under my blazer ties in with the shoes without stealing the show, by just peeking out a bit.

I added the armwarmers after work, as we headed out for Sushi Thursday last week. Our sushi place is usually pretty chilly!! These are the ones that Mr. Kitty featured in his artsy contribution to my Armwarmer Theme back in November.

This marcasite and garnet pendant came from Target a few years ago. I made the beaded necklace for it using some cool double pyramid beads I scored at a gem show.  As you might have noticed, I tend to replace the chains on most of my pendants with something more custom.

How do you guys think the red shoes work with this outfit?

I think the red shoes work wonderfully! The red isn't too bright and it doesn't pop too much, in fact it ties in with your red top perfectly!

  2. Meagan Kyla says:

Lovely! Red is my favorite color and I'm really digging those Demonia shoes. They would lovely with a black dress and short ruffly socks. :)

  3. Lynoire says:

They work, they look really cute and somewhat cheerful to me.I love the ladybug shoes also by Ellie and yours remind me of those…:)

  4. GothBarbie says:

You nailed it! Perfect balance in your outfit to keep it classy! You're so good at using awesome elements in your own sophisticated goth way! LOVE IT!!

  5. Nosnin says:

I always like a little splash of color with my black, and that is perfect, don't too much but just enough.

  6. I like the shoes. I think they add a bit of a daring element to your outfit. I'm kind of like you- I have a few pairs of colored shoes but I just don't reach for them that often. I should though…. it's always a nice punch of color. I'm digging the arm warmers with this whole look.

  7. This looks like a fun look. I like the cute shoes and the arm warmers take this from a nice office look, to a nice night out look. And I LOVE the necklace!

  8. Lyra says:

I love that the shoes have a bit of black in them so it blends seamlessly and doesn't look too "matchy-matchy" The necklace is just gorgeous. *covets*

I like the top half of this outfit, but I really don't like the bottom (horrible honesty!). I think the pants hem should fall over the shoe heels a bit more to give it a better silhouette. Maybe it was too many years as a naval cadet, but I have a thing about hems being at least 3/4th the way down a heel to look like they are not too short. Otherwise, I think everything is super cute about this outfit and I love the beaded necklace you've made for the pendant. Perfect match!

I love this outfit – you look stunning as always. I really love the combination of the red shoes and top – it really makes the outfit more interesting. And my favourite is the arm warmers – they look elegant and gothy at the same time.

Lovely outfit! I think it's the best thing with your outfits. You reuse and combine your clothes and always succed to look fantastic and show us readers a new outfit every post. That is truly inspiring.

  12. I always have such a hard time when working red into what I wear…It bleaches my skin so much.haha everythime I put a outfit together with red in it, I end up changing out of it within a hour. ;/ haha

  13. akumaxkami, thanks! Actually this is the only top I own that matches the shoes. Not sure what I'll pair them with next time!! :) Meagan Kyla, I love that suggestion! You just answered my question of how to style these shoes next time!Lynoire, Ellie has awesome styles, too! These do have a cheery, ladybug feel to them.GothBarbie, thanks! It's a lot of trial and error. ;-DSasha, you are so sweet. Armwarmers are a simple way to add instant warmth and Gothiness to an outfit. The perfect accessory!Nosnin, I agree – while I loved my recent all-purple outfit, generally I prefer just a couple of splashes amongst the black.Lady Bethezda, these shoes are indeed daring for me! I hope you'll blog about your colored shoes to give me some ideas on how to wear mine. ;-DAngelShinigami, thank you. Target sometimes has the best jewelry. Other times, not so much. I check there regularly, just to make sure I don't miss anything. ;) That's how I found this pendant!Lyra, that's what I like about these shoes, too. I also bought an all-red pair and haven't worn them once… Maybe those weren't such a good idea for me!Hexotica, I didn't know you were a naval cadet! In that case, I can see your point. I'm definitely no pant-expert, since I don't wear them often. I always feel like I'm in slouchy pajamas if my pants go past the top of my foot. ;) Plus I hate to hide my shoes!!! lol. I could probably stand to take the hem down an inch or so… I'll try it and see how that sits with me!linnea-maria, that's a skill that's definitely increased for me since starting this blog. Before, I was growing complacent and wearing the same combinations over and over. This blog is a great challenge for me!Le Professeur, that's an excellent suggestion! Hmmm… we had a dreary day the day before I wore this! I wonder if it subconsciously inspired me to crave colorful feet…Mariel, thank you!Allison, I know what you mean!! I have certain things that seem like a good idea, until I actually try to wear them. Then I plan to get rid of them but they look so good NOT on me, so I decide to give them another chance… So the cycle continues. ;-D

  14. Le Professeur Gothique says:

I have a suggestion: wear the shoes on a super dreary day when you have the potential of feeling blue. Seriously. You'll fall in love with the pop of color when you look at your feet hopping over puddles of water. :) You look adorable!

  15. The red shoes are perfect with that outfit! Give them more of a shot with some of your other outfits!

  16. Jamie says:

This is great! Red and black is one of my personal favorite color combinations, and I love those shoes. I would break an ankle wearing them, but they are adorable.

  17. BlacKat says:

Very nice shoes! Reminds me of a question I had – someone this week said "you're not that goth, you're wearing color!" quite seriously to me. The color in question was a dark purple lace trim top under a black blazer. I had absolutely no idea how to answer this – any suggestions?

  18. Most definitely, your red shoes are a go for this~. It's hard for red and black not to go well together~ but those shoes are to die for.

  19. Red and black is a fantstic combo (probably my fav). I like this look. The shoes are great. The fact that they're black and red softens the look nicely.

  20. Unlacing, thanks!! I definitely will give these more of a chance and see what I can come up with!Jamie, lol! Practice, practice, practice. ;-DBlacKat, comments like that are so frustrating. As for how to answer, it depends on the spirit in which the person said it. If it was a non-Goth person, they might have just been poking fun based on stereotypes, in which case I would just explain to them in earnest that the Goth subculture goes much deeper than just stereotypes, and maybe even show them some examples on the Internet of Goths who rock non-black clothing. If it was a Goth person who made that comment, they might be a bit insecure in their own identity (that's always my assumption when Goths accuse other Goths of not being "Goth enough."). In that case, I would very politely remind them that Goth means different things to different people, and provides us with a world where we can freely express ourselves and be creative without constraints such as "must wear all black, all the time." However you answer, just always be sincere and respectful.Sir Isaak, yes to red and black! :) I'm so looking forward to the Second Annual Red & Black Week this June!jeanofalltrades, thank you! Yes, I definitely love that the shoes are not solid red. Much easier to work with that way. :)
