Neo-Victorian Lace-Covered Boots

In looking at everyone’s posts for my amazingly popular boots theme back in September, I ended up perusing a lot of boot Web sites. In the process, I saw at least a dozen pairs that I really would have liked to own, but this style from Demonia stuck out. I resisted buying them until October, which I think demonstrates remarkable self-control. ;) I ordered these from Sinister Soles because they had the best price, and I must say their service was fabulous. They offered free shipping with any purchase over $100, and the boots (plus another pair of heels to get me to the $100 mark) arrived in only TWO days.

I’ve had bad experiences buying boots online. Even if they are true to size and actually fit in the foot, they tend to be too wide around the calf for my slim legs. I think I held my breath from the time I ordered these until they arrived, and was SO relieved to find these are a perfect fit from top to bottom. The only thing I don’t like is that little skull and crossbone guy on the bow. I’m not into skulls of any kind, and this one isn’t even cool looking (he actually looks like he’s laughing). He’s firmly riveted on, so I’m still trying to think of a way to get rid of him without destroying the bows.

I wasn’t sure how to style these for work, so I pulled out a burgundy velveteen blazer from Wet Seal and a fit and flare skirt, plus my black heart pendant for added Victorian romance. This combination resulted in several compliments from coworkers, and I felt pretty cute all day.

  1. Paint over the guy with some black model paint. If you can't get rid of him, at least you can camoflage him.

I beleive Captain Morgans suggestion was a good one. I've been thinking of buying these boots as well but I choose another pair of platform boots. Your boots looks taller than I thought looking at the pictures on the internet shops. They fit your style perfect!!

Very nice outfit and amazing boots! I was considering getting similar boots to those before, though I decided on a diferent style altogether. But I must say they look fabulous on you! I know the feeling about skull- I'm not too fond of them either. Good luck on getting rid of it!

I can't imagine myself wearing these boots, but they suit you so nicely, you look absolutely fabulous. ^^I agree with Captain Morgan, or maybe, if you can take them off somehow, you can put something on their place…aaaw, it must have made sooo much sense…but I think, you know what I mean…:)

I like the spot of silver in the middle of the bow, too bad it's a funny looking skull. I can't think what they are called, but there exists a power tool that is basically a wee sander for metal, the bit of which is somewhat conical. Someone at a hardware store might understand that description. If it is solid metal, perhaps you could sand off the details and just be left with an irregular silver bauble. Regardless, they are still great boots and I love the blazer.

I have the opposite problem: my legs are too muscular for most knee high boots. These are really cute!

  7. Small, heat-fix rhinestones can cover a lot of things. Sparkle him over.

I believe Sabayon might be talking about a rotary tool, often known by the name brand Dremel. I have this funny image of the laughing skull mocking you with "Ha ha, I'm here and you don't like me!" and then having his little metal head sanded off. :OThe boots are lovely, and the blazer goes with them perfectly. I had a good experience with Sinister Soles. Their prices were good, my order arrived super fast and they were very accommodating when I needed to exchange sizes.

  9. Captain Morgan, excellent suggestion! Perhaps first I could grind off his crossbones with a Dremel so they will no longer snag my stockings… :) Caroline, thank you! :) linnea-maria, thanks! Hope we'll be seeing your new boots soon. I love platform boots!! They don't fit in with my style usually, but I totally love to see how others style them.Celeste, thanks! I'll post an update when I decide on the best course of skull-removal action. ;) Lynoire, I know what you mean! My main fear in removing the skull is that he appears to be holding the bow together. I just don't want the whole thing to fall off… Although if that happens, I have loads of Shoe Goo to put them back on with…Sabayon, as Bane said, I think that's the Dremel. I have one, and it does have such an attachment. Great idea for gentle skull removal!! I could grind him into abstraction, or clean away and replace him with a shiny bauble of my choosing!katysioux, muscles are good! I love toned girls.Tante, love that idea!!!Bane, lol! Yes: I was thinking Dremel too when I read Sabayon's comment. I have one, and love to randomly attack metal things with it (sparks are fun!). I even use it on my acrylic nails when the tech makes them too thick. :-D Glad to hear that Sinister soles is so reliable. I'll be ordering from them again, for sure!

Those boots are gorgeous, and the outfit works, works, WORKS! Homerun again.I ended up purchasing the boots I was coveting in my boots-themed post from Sinister Soles also, and have nothing but praise for them. I've had to stuff the boots with insoles and both heel and toe inserts, but not the store's fault (or problem). Loved their service, and after those adjustments, love my boots! =)

  11. Luna says:

Definitely a shame about the goofy skull–those boots look absolutely killer! I actually like skulls and bones and things of the sort (though better when they're more clinical and less stylized), but silly skulls would simply not do, even for me. I hope you can maybe file him down and cover him with something!

  12. Lynoire says:

Yes, indeed, that could happen, I'm afraid…but as I know myself, I'd try to get rid of them even if I'd have to glue the bows back…:)

  13. Le Professeur Gothique is right- this does look holiday party worthy. Now I'm getting bad ideas for holiday party outfit ideas (ours is next week, and it's turned into a bit of a mini-production this year with massive planning on everyone's part). Once again, stop showing me stuff I can't afford!

  14. Traicetrak, that's awesome. Another wonderful Sinister Soles experience. I'm often quite thankful for all of the insoles, heel pads, strap pads, etc available these days!Luna, yeah, this guy is WAY too silly for lovely lace boots. His days are numbered! ;) Le Professeur, I actually dodge any and all holiday parties (except family), but if I did attend one, I agree this would be a great outfit for such an event. :) And thank you: I'm deeply in love with blazers these days!Lynoire, that's probably how it will turn out. ;-DUnlacing, sounds like it'll be a great party! Hope you'll be sharing some outfit photos. Oh, and sorry! ;)

  15. Spyda says:

First time commenter :) As for the skull problem, maybe you could hot glue and/or stitch a piece of matching ribbon over the offending skull to look like a knot on a normal bow.Hope you find a suitable solution, though the boots are really cute.

  16. Le Professeur Gothique says:

Very nice! I instantly thought of "holiday party" because the blazer and bowed boot combination is so festive … or maybe that's where my brain is lately? :D You look utterly beautiful. I have to say, I really like the way fitted blazers look on you.

  17. GothBarbie says:

Great boots, great outfit , great look! Your posture is impeccable – were you a ballerina in your youth?

  18. Beautiful outfit, so well put together! I love the boots, like others said, they really fit your style. You've got many awesome suggestions on how to deal with the funny looking skull… I absolutely love skulls so if this was a good looking skull I would definitely want it in that spot because from far away it looks awesome. I was actually excited to learn that it wasn't just a silver spot but actual skull… :)

  19. Snowhyte says:

Beautiful outfit! I love the boots, have been so tempted to purchase similar items and I have hesitated at online purchasing because of the fact you can't try them on… The one reason I did buy the pair of shoes recently shown in a post of mine was because I had tried them on at the store! I guess no risk no reward though and you certainly scored with these!

  20. The HouseCat says:

Ooo, nice outfit, and those boots, skull issue aside, are really nice! Depending on the size of the skulls, I was going to suggest the same thing as Spyda – put some ribbon or matching material over the skull to make it look like the fabric in the middle of a knot. I personally like skulls, but I don't like skulls with cross-bones because of all the pirate connotations and I'm sick to death of tacky pirate stuff.
