What’s Better than Purple? Purple with Black Lace Overlay!

Sometimes I don’t give Target enough credit for their clothing designs. I have to say; they win again with this purple sweater with black lace overlay. I picked this up years ago and love it still. Here I’ve paired it with a seed bead necklace and bracelets made by me, and a straight skirt also from Target.

This is Casual Thursday wear for me. We work a 4/10 schedule at my office, meaning we do four 10-hour days and then we are off Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Our staff begged to be allowed to wear jeans on Thursdays in lieu of the traditional “Casual Friday.” Human Resources finally caved in. Of course, I usually can’t bring myself to wear jeans to work even if I am told to, so sometimes I break out a more-casual-than-usual top and a very plain skirt. Other times, I wear a blazer or extra-Gothy outfit just for the contrast. ;)

Do you get a “casual day” at work?  If so, what do you like to wear?

  1. Gorgeous outfit!! I love that top! :) That's a great move on the part of your employer to allow you guys work 4/10.. Having Friday off every week is definitely worth it.

Were I live all days are casual days. We don't have outspoken restrictions at work, my bosses always wear jeans and a shirt. We can choose how to dress how we like, as long as we don't offend anyone. I've tryed dreads one day, I felt looked at, the same reaction when I used my demonian boots, so these things I save for my sparetime. I also have to think of myself as representing the company as I have a lot of contact with suppliers. Your cardigan is so nice. That is something that is missing in my wardrobe right now.

Yes, like Linnea-maria, all days are pretty casual or at least totally non-regulated where I work. That sweater is really lovely. The lace overlay really makes the edge and cuffs pop.

This is a great outfit! In my new department (since July), every day I spend on office duty is a "casual day" which means I wear jeans and a chic blouse or fancy top. I don't wear sneakers, though, only shoes with heels.I mostly work in the field, though, and my outfits are very professional whenever I do external work, mostly skirts and blazers although I have done dark blue jeans + blouse + blazer once or twice – depending on the company I'm auditing.

Very nice outfit! I love the sweater! :)

I've always used "casual friday" to mean I can dress more like I do in my "off time" – that's what everyone else is doing wearing their blue jeans, right? So I mostly wear more FUN outfits on Friday – gothy-er dresses – bigger boots…

This is so perfect for a "casual" day — I do love cardigans with a nice tailored skirt. That purple really pops, very nice. I have to say, you do look pretty darned comfy in this. hehehe … :) As for casual days, I usually go casual when giving final exams. The students are done, I'm done. Finals really call for a time-out.

Purple with lace overlay! :D Very cute cardigan. In the town where I work, "dressing up" means wearing jeans (rather than shorts) and your nice fleece jacket (the one that's less covered in dog hair). :P The office follows that policy… so every day is casual day.

Super cute…that sweater is to die for!

So lovely! I like the whole outfit, but the sweater itself is amazing. :) I used to be a personal assistant, there we actually had "elegant Wednesdays". We dressed rather casually on other days, but we had weekly meetings on Wednesdays and I had to give reports and presentations, it required me to wear suits. :)

  11. I love purple and black together and this look you've put together is so sophisticated. Thanks for the great blog!

  12. Kamyria, thanks! I LOVE the 4/10 schedule. They implemented it to cut costs (not having to have the facilities open Fridays) but I hope when the economy is all back to normal we get to keep this schedule!Le Professeur, I don't blame you for going casual during finals! There are too many more important things to think about at that time than being fancy!linnea-maria, I know the awkward feeling you are describing, when the co-workers are looking at you strange but not saying anything. Sometimes it's just more comfortable to not go too ALT at work, even if you could technically get away with it.Sabayon, thanks! How lucky you guys are to have work environments without dress codes!Sal, it must be kinda nice to have so much variety in the level of dressiness at your work. I love the jeans/blazer combo!Noise Electric, thank you! :) Celeste, thanks!GothBarbie, I use that philosophy sometimes, too. And it works! I guess a bunch of corporate people wearing jeans don't really have a right to criticize, and they know it. ;) Bane, I love how you put that. :) I can relate… lol!Lynoire, I LOVE the idea of Elegant Wednesdays!!Lady Bethezda, thank you for your kind words! I'm so glad you like the blog. :)

The Friday of our pay-week is casual at my job and "casual days" are used for performance rewards quite often. I dress the same as always and give my casual day awards away to co-workers who I know will use them. I always joke that I would prefer a "wear a silly hat" or "wear fangs to work" day. Ha!
