For my 38th birthday weekend, I had my heart set on wearing Stop Staring each evening. This particular dress was on my wish list when I first started my blog, and I finally found it in my size for a discount on eBay. So I decided to make this a birthday gift to myself (along with another purple Stop Staring dress, also on sale on eBay, which you’ll see tomorrow).

Mr. Kitty and I headed out for some dancing, but it turned out to be an off night at the club. We got so drowsy waiting for songs we actually wanted to dance to that we were too tired to dance by the time any were played. We decided to just head home early and get rested up for the two remaining days of birthday festivities.

Mr. Kitty bought me this lovely choker by Alchemy Gothic for my birthday a couple of years ago. We had seen it in a shop down in San Diego and somehow he managed to remember it well enough to find it online months later. It’s my only Alchemy Gothic piece, except an old bat hair clip that I never wear.

I wore my hair in a simple ponytail with two hair flowers: one in black and one in purple (yes, the bottom one is purple, although you can hardly tell). The satin rose purse is from Pyramid Collection, and the gloves are from Greatlookz. I finished the look with a pair of fishnets. These have a larger diamond pattern than normal fishnets.

Do you plan special outfits for your birthday? Any particular designers that you prefer for special occasions?

  1. Hi Nanna, it's actually a deep purple, but it might read as brown on some monitors. And thanks!! :)

Your hair is especially lovely styled this way! And I'm feeling envy over that purse. I remember seeing it in an old Pyramid Collection catalog alongside a cloak I'm coveting, and realized I pretty much wanted the whole page! LOL

You look so classy and lovely! Happy BIRTHDAY!!! Also I'd never guess you for 38! I especially love the dainty gloves – very sweet!I am IN LOVE with Betsey Johnson dresses and if I had endless funds I'd wear her dresses for EVERY occasion! For now I own 3 – it's a start!

You look so gorgeous! And are you seriously 38? You look so much younger! One of the great side effects of lots of sun cream I guess xDI know what I'm wearing for my birthday party: A Matt Smith outfit! I'm having a Dr. Who themed sleepover so I'm abandoning my blacks for the day :) And as for the day itself, I'll be on a plane, so sadly I can't bring out my one and only corset to celebrate :(

Happy birthday! You looked gorgeous for sure, that dress is amazing; such a beautiful cut and colour. My birthday is coming in ten days too, and in fact I have been looking forward to receiving one dress I shopped online by that time. Although my birthday's not on weekend, I'd like to wear something nice to work.

Happy Birthday! Lovely dress, particularly the color.I hope you enjoy the rest of your celebrating! For my 38th birthday a few months ago, I didn't get out of my pajamas all day – which for me is what makes me happy. (a movie marathon and take-out food with the husband)

  7. 38 years young and not a day over 25, my friend~! Happy birthday~!What another great ensemble, you look ready for a night on the town any day of the week for any occasion really. Gloves and dress are stellar.

  9. First of all, happy birthday! I love this pendant, I will include it on my xmas list XD. You look lovely, so have a nice day n_n.

  10. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes!! :-D Traicetrak, the purse is currently on sale (or still was as of last week). That's why I finally broke down and went for it! :) GothBarbie, thank you!! I think it's all about staying young at heart!AislingChild, you are sweet! And you are correct – good moisturizers and sun creams do a LOT for protecting skin against aging! Oh, I must admit I had to look up Matt Smith. Never been a Dr. Who fan but now I'll have to check it out! :) Raphael, greetings!! I hope you have a wonderful birthday! I'll be watching your blog for a post of the new dress. ;-DRubyAlison, that sounds sooooo nice. I need a PJs day soon too!!Sir Isaak, you are too kind. ;) And thank you!Bane, thanks! More purple tomorrow, for sure.Madame Macabre, you really should! It's one of their finest pieces, in my opinion.

  11. Happy birthday! Your outfit is beautiful- the cut of the dress is quite lovely and I really like the choker.

Happy birthday! You look fabulous, as usual. I always plan my birthday outfits, and wear purple. I have worn a ball gown just to lounge/wander around the house on my birthday quite a few times now. Such decadence!

  13. † Nanna † says:

What's the color of the dress? Brown or purple? Hm… but it's beautiful anyway! :)

  14. I love your blog. You always look so beautiful and classy. First, Happy Birthday. Second, my jaw dropped when you said you were turning 38. You can easily pass for ten or more years younger. I really admire the way you put clothing and accessories together; it's a real inspiration for someone returning to their darker roots.

That dress is gorgeous, love the cut of it! Stop staring have a lot of nice dresses I use to drool over but never bought. I have a few pieces from Necessary evil otherwise I don't have a particular designer to pick out for special occasions, maybe something I made myself ;)

  16. Hexotica says:

Happy Birthday! You don't look your age at all! ;)

  17. Le Professeur Gothique says:

First and foremost: HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Va-va-voom! Stop Staring was made for you — you look fabulous. It's a great cut for you, I really like the way the shoulders balance you out and accentuate the natural curve in your hips. Very lovely and super bombshell.Birthday hugs from NYC!!!

  18. Aristocratic Elegance, thank you! This choker is one of my favorite things.Julianne, aww, thanks!! :) Yay for Birthday Purple! I adore the idea of wearing a fancy gown around the house for a special day. I'm totally stealing that next year. ;) angelwhisper, thank you for your kind words!! I love to hear when people are returning to Goth as adults! It's not always easy, but so much easier than not being true to yourself. :) linnea-maria, I wish I had the sewing skills (and time, and patience!) to make my own outfits! I hope we'll be seeing more of your DIY creations on your blog. I love what I've seen so far!Hexotica, likewise, my dear! ;) Le Professeur, aww, thank you! I think Stop Staring is brilliant for taking cues from fashion of the forties. They really knew how to accentuate the female form back then. That's why I'm drooling over old movies all the time… ;)
