Velvet, Lace and Roses

This fabulous skirt was a hand-me-down from my sister *. The body of the skirt is made from a matte-finish stretch lace, and the ruffle at the bottom is simply gorgeous shimmery lace. As if that’s not enough lace, there’s a delicate lace trim in between the two!

I have no idea where the velvet tank top came from. :)

Necklace came from a little shop on Melrose Blvd that is loaded with sparkly things at great prices. Hard to believe for Melrose… The prices are so great that I bought a purple one just like this one.

Black roses came from eBay, and I made them into hair ornaments with my trusty hot glue and a couple of alligator clips.

* I should clarify that my sister is actually my brother’s wife, but I love her too much to always insist on the clarification of “in-law.” She’s probably better than a real sister anyway, as we’ve never had any reason to argue or have petty rivalries. :)

What was your latest crafty project?

My latest project is my bonnet, but it isn't done yet! On Tuesday I head over to the city so I can pick up the rest of the materials that I need. Other than that I have been completely lazy when it comes to crafting…

My last crafty project was fixing a hole that one of the animals (probably the dog) chewed in a black tank top. I cut out a white skull shape from felt and just patched it on over the hole. "As if that's not enough lace…" Could there ever really be enough lace? ;)

Man the best thing I ever got as a hand-me-down from my sister were a pair of worn-out pink sparkle jellies. That skirt is so much better!I just started knitting black and burgundy striped cape. I need to reassure myself that Fall will eventually come back.

  4. What a great handy me down the skirt is gorgeous!! and I absolutely love love your hair girl. So pretty.<3 MarinaFashion.MakeUp.LifeStyle

I LOVE your skirt. Lace is one my favorite fabrics. It also pairs nicely with velvet (also a fabric fave). You look lovely as usual :) .

I can't really say what was my "last" project, since I have a really bad tendency of starting ten projects at once and never really finishing any of them. >_> I couldn't even tell you what my last completed project was. -_-; I *think* it was a choker… Or was it a blouse???@Becky: Word of God says that the theory of having "too much lace" is highly invalid.

Lately, I've been making feathered and silk flowered barrettes. It's the first time in years that my hair has been this long and just have to dress up my locks! You can see my latest creation here:http://gothicprofessor.blogspot.com/2011/07/lacy-saturday-running-errands.htmlYou've been a wonderful inspiration to me, darling! THANK YOU for writing this blog!!!

  9. My latest crafty project was taping my very first hula hoop – oh my! That was a while ago. Tonight I am creeping out of my fangirl lurker lair to express my admiration for your style – if I weren't on this minimalist kick, I'd probably put together a closet of things very similar to yours! Naturally, they'd be worn with a tad less aplomb, but a girl has to have something to live up to!

I'm crocheting a blanket for the cute Miss Flo, our dog.Not a real project: I need to re-sew a hook on "the vest". It came loose when I wore it yesterday. :( Your skirt is truly georgeous, so is the top. How I wish I had a sister – in-law or not. Having siblings must be awsome.Sal K.

  11. Miss Gracie, I'm looking forward to seeing the bonnet. I can relate to the crafty-laziness – I go through spells where I don't have any desire to do ANY crafts for a month and then spells where I have to spend every waking moment crafting… Must be hormones. :) Becky, point taken. ;-D And very creative fix for the tank top hole. I'll have to keep that in mind next time something falls victim to the massive Maine Coon claws in our house…Sabayon, I should have clarified that she's actually my brother's wife, therefore much nicer to me than a biological sister. ;-D I'm jealous that you know how to knit!! A knit cape sounds cool (and warm – ha!). Fashion.MakeUp.LifeStyle, thank you! :) Sunduri Das, I agree; velvet and lace are soulmates. :) And thank you!NoxArtemis, that's the curse of being creative. It just means you have more ideas than free time!Mary Zawadzki, you are too sweet! I really appreciate your kind words. Those sentiments make this blogging thing very rewarding to me.Sada, lol! No worries; there will be plenty more events. Thanks for thinking of me though!Violet the Sloth, thank you so much for the lovely compliment! You totally made my day, plus "aplomb" is such a great word. :-D I'm looking forward to checking out your blog!Sal, how cute! I'm sorry to hear you have no siblings. Both my husband and my brother's wife grew up as only children, and they always tell us how lucky we were to have each other. Hopefully your husband has brothers you can adopt, at least?

  12. Sal Kaye says:

No, unfortunately he's an only child, too. :(

Velvet + "too much" lace = A++ outfit.
