Based on the wonderful suggestions of my readers, I revisited the infamous Mauve Top we recently discussed. I heeded your advice and tried the top with skinny black jeans, all-black accessories and without the shrug. I am much happier with this look, as I’m sure you all will be too.
As I mentioned before, I love this length because I like to wear my skinny jeans or close-fitting skirts to work occasionally (although I normally rebel and dress fancy for Jeans Thursday). This sort of top covers the areas I might not feel comfortable flaunting in tight bottoms at work.
Actually if I wear this top again, I’ll use this look but probably add the shrug back in. Either way, this top just barely squeaked by with a “keep.” However, when I find some lovely new things and need to make room in the closet, it will probably be one of the first things to go. I’ll be sure to get some use out of it in the meantime. Maybe knowing its day’s are numbered will make me appreciate it more for a little while.

This outfit looks fantastic. Definitely keep the top (coming from someone who never wears pants or non black clothing!).
What a great outfit! You have the perfect figure for it! The lace keeps it feminine – love it.
Wow, I like the top so much better w/the black jeans! Before, I like the color but the shape seemed a little frumpy (which is so *not* you). With the skinny jeans, the whole thing is sleek & girly & great. Amazing what a different outfit will do.
Yep, looks MUCH better with the jeans than the purple skirt. More on the "cute" than "glam" side but still a sweet look! Love the length of your braids!Peace,Sherry
It looks great!!
Yep, I like it much better with the skinny jeans; it softens what could be a very hard-edged look (black skinny jeans). And that fleur de lis necklace is beautifully framed by the lace, making it a focal point. You look beautiful!
I agree, this looks MUCH better! I love the belt too!
Look at you! I knew this would suit you well. You look terrific
.
This looks really great! I think pairing the mauve lace with all black is the key.
Mary, thank you!
Good point about softening the look of the jeans. I'll have to give more thought to the other "sweet" (to quote Sherry) tops in my wardrobe and how they would go with the jeans.Amber Dawn, I think I like wide belts for work because it's the closest I can get to a waist cincher-ish look for the office. Glad you like it!MinaKitty, thank you! I'm not a big pants-wearer either, although lately I'm enjoying them a bit more just for the variety.Joy, thanks! I think this is a big improvement, and the lace "shines" more with the black setting it off. It's all about the lace!!Trystan, I think that's the cool thing about tracking your outfits; seeing how different a piece can look just by how you combine it with other pieces. Endless fun for those of us who love clothes and creativity!!Sherry, I'm good with "sweet."
Sunduri Das, thank you!
And thanks again for your suggestions on the previous post. You really had a vision for this top, and it was right on!Shannon, I agree! This color just doesn't lend itself well to anything but a nice black backdrop.
I think you should keep it anyway. It's a lovely color. Don't add the shrug- it hides the lovely lace too much.
