| Our Car: 1962 Chrysler Newport |
Lately we’ve been picking and choosing our car shows. We used to go to the local shows nearly every Saturday in our little town, but these tiny shows get boring with the same few people and the same few cars, and the small-town mentality that causes half the people present to assume I am Wiccan (I am not)… Usually we now hold out for a grand show in L.A. We did decide to pop in to a local show last weekend to say a quick hello to the old crowd. Turns out that most people were leaving by the time we got there, as it was quite cold and extremely windy. But we had fun going for a drive, just the same.
The sleeves are made by me from inexpensive, stretchy swim suit lining. I also made the choker – its just a length of fancy ribbon with a clasp attached in the back. And the lace headband is homemade, from a length of stretchy, double scallop-edged lace sewn into a circle. Ruched satin tank top and shrug are from random mall stores.
The lace skirt comes from Newport News. I really splurged on this skirt, as it was relatively expensive and I couldn’t bring myself to wait for it to go on sale. I was delighted when it arrived. The fit is perfect, the lace isn’t stretchy (stretch lace starts to look ratty so quickly in skirts, at least in my experience) and the matte finish makes it not too fancy for work. I was quite angry when the first time I wore it, I caught my wedding ring prongs in the lace and tore a tiny hole right in the middle of the front. It’s barely noticeable, but I know it’s there and it irritates me to no end. That’s what I get for sitting with my hands demurely folded in my lap.
Anyone else have a clothes-damaging tragedy they want share, to make me feel better?

That shrug is amazing, I love the style of it; I could go for a fully length duster version of it~! Your handmade pieces are amazing, too, you always know how to make your hair styles shine [even without a piece].I do like the shirt and skirt as well~ I'm sorry you have a tiny unnoticeable hole. I understand the frustration, no one can see it unless they look right at it [and sometimes, not even then...], but you feel like it's glaring. My black grommited pair of Visual Kei pants have become like that, because I was made to wear leggings underneath them in the colder months and they started to wear matching holes. I patched them cleanly, but I still feel like the holes are glaring, nfyuuuhhhhnnn~ [strange sfx are strange].Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut, it still looks fantastic, your skirt. ^_^
Gorgeous outfit. I love the skirt! Ugh, I do that sort of thing all the time. I have the worst time with boots that have zippers on the side catching on my new stockings and ripping giant holes in them.
I love car shows. My husband, father in law and I go to them as often as possible and I grew up going to them with family. I love taking pictures of all the interesting paint and interior jobs.I am always impressed with your sewing skills. I feel like I'd be able to handle power tools much more than I'd be able to handle a sewing machine. I'm not gentle. As far as a clothes-damaging tragedy? I bought a gorgeous, soft, seemingly well made faux black leather jacket from Express two years ago. I went to put it on after I had it for a few months and noticed a giant rip in the lining on the back of the jacket. I still wear it and I still haven't fixed it, but it still makes me sad. (And it makes me question the quality for the price of things from Express to be perfectly honest.)
It's impossible for me to wear a brand new shirt without spilling something on it. There are faint stains on many of my shirts that I know are there, but pray others don't notice. These things happen.
Can we please talk about the fact that your top matches that car perfectly?!?! How awesome!I think I've mentioned this before, I love vintage cars but I don't think I ever wentto a big car show just because there was never anything close by that I could go to. I recently looked up vintage car loans though.. I'm dreaming of my '55 Dodge Coronet every single night. And on terms of damaged clothing… my supposedly "awesome quality" American Apparel mini pencil skirt ripped a few weeks ago. What a piece of crap, really. I'm glad I got it on sale for 1/2 the price ($20 instead of $40).
That shrug. I needs it. I haven't had any really devastating clothes tragedies, but about a year ago my favorite, green, very sci-fi-looking sweater developed enormous orange blotches in the wash. I was pretty pis…*ahem* distraught.
Sir Isaak, I know what you mean. You know the flaws are there, even if others don't notice. I guess it's therapeutic – we WILL learn to accept that we cannot be perfect! ;-DZellain, how cool that you guys go to car shows, too! California has a pretty huge variety of great classics and customs. I'm surprised that your Express jacket fell apart. I, too thought that they were supposed to be good quality. I guess sometimes there is just a bad seed…Captain Morgan, I never noticed… But now I'm going to be looking.
Katie, thanks for noticing! I did throw in some white in honor of the car.
Keep that Coronet in your mind – dreams can't come true if we give up on them! And hopefully you can repair your pencil skirt? If not, at least it was a relatively good deal, but $20 is still a good chunk of money!!Becky, orange blotches on a green sweater?!? I'm really curious what happened there! I guess maybe that could lend to the sci-fi effect, as long as you don't hate orange…
Perdona el retraso, estas guapisima, mira que me gusta como vistes y lobien que te maquillas.La falda es preciosa.Besos isabel
Yeah, I need to sow up that hole.. but I can't seem to find any of my needles. Haha.
Splendid! I fall in love with the ivory top…
